What we do
We are a specialist service for the production of high-resolution, archival quality reproductions of artworks. We have the expertise and equipment to create accurate digital copies of your work.
We understand that you need a top quality, affordable service so we have worked hard to make it as easy as possible to make the process as easy as possible. From booking the photography sessions, getting your artwork to us, photographing it, and then delivering you the high resolution, colour-corrected files you need.
Whether it’s oil paintings or watercolours, sculptures or 3D paper folds, ceramics or lampshades, we can create high resolution photographic reproductions that you can then use for your website, social media, or to create prints.
We have worked to make it as simple and affordable as possible to book a photography session. For more information go to the FAQs
How to Book your artwork photography session.
Decide what art works you need photographed or scanned.
Go to Book Photography Session and click on the item that most closely describes your art work (2D Artwork, Ceramics & Homewares or Sculpture & 3D Art). If your artwork doesn’t fit into any of these categories, email me tom@tomleighton.co.uk for advice and a quote.
Select the size for each individual artwork and the quantity of each. Then add to the basket.
Once you have selected your artworks, you will need to give a little bit more information about each piece. (do you need the works photographed with or without a frame? Does the reverse of the picture need to be photographed, etc.
Make a payment.
We will be in touch to arrange a drop off / delivery of the works and give you a time frame. We aim to do our turnaround within 7 days but for an extra fee we can do a quicker turnaround. See prices for more info.
Once we have finished we we drop you a line and invite you to the studio to check the accuracy of the digital images.
When you are happy we will send you the invoice and arrange for the collection of the artworks. Once the invoice is paid we will send you the digital files.
F.A.Q.
What artwork can you photograph?
We have the facilities to photograph all mediums of art ranging from 2-D such as paintings, prints, collages and cyanotpes to 3-D ceramics, sculptures, lampshades. Whatever your art, we can photograph it.
My artwork is really bright / dark / neon. When I take picture on my phone it looks completely different. Can you really get a faithful reproduction?
Yes we can! We make sure all work is colour corrected and a faithful representation of your work. We use top of the range lighting, colour calibrated monitors and X-Rite Color Checkers and software to ensure the colours and tones of your work is matched in the final digital images.
My work is behind glass / perspex / has lots of shiny surfaces. Is this a problem?
We would prefer to photograph the work without any glass or perspex in front of it but we understand this isn’t always possible. We use polarising filters to reduce any reflections.
How do I deliver my artwork to you?
When you book a photography session, you will be given a link that automatically allows you to book a drop off time in my calendar. This would be my preference because we can then discuss your needs in greater detail and you can ask any questions about the process.
Alternatively you can arrange for a courier to deliver it but you will need to email me to let me know when they are coming.
My work is ceramics / homewares / sculpture / 3-D. How do you photograph this?
I don’t just photograph paintings. I work with artists from all mediums. When you drop off your work we can discuss what background you need and how you want your work captured. See below for a few examples.
Ceramics
3-D paper fold sculpture
Lighting & Homewares
Can you include the frame in the final image?
Absolutely. Some people need the frame documented as well, especially more valuable piece of art where the provenance is important and the frame is integral to the artwork. If you want to include the frame we can do this. If you just want the artwork, that’s fine too. You can also have a white border around your artwork. When you book the photo session, just select the option you want.
I need the reverse of the painting taken as well can you do this?
Of course. I charge an extra £10 per painting regardless of size (unless colour correction is needed). Please tick the box in the check out.
How long does it take to get the final images?
Our standard turn around time is 5 days from when you deliver the artwork to me. However, I may be able to do it quicker. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.
Can I see the digital images before you invoice me and I collect the artwork?
I am confident you will be happy with the results. However, when you come and pick up the artwork, I will show you the final digital images on the calibrated monitor first to make sure you are happy with the results. Once you are happy I will send you the final invoice, with any outstanding payments and send the digital files to you via Wetransfer.
What format do you photograph images in?
We photograph all images using RAW files (AKA digital negatives). This gives us the highest resolution and best quality results. We then process the images and send you the final images as full size and web-ready JPEGS.
